A Novice With a Keurig
You're probably wondering how I ended up here, so let's start by talking about how I got into the wonderful world of coffee.

Well, if you’ve made it this far then you must truly be a Java Junkie and I would like to personally thank you for being here!
My name is Haylee, and this is going to be my all things coffee journal where I spill the beans, coffee beans of course, about how to make a better cup of coffee at home. Now, by no means do I classify myself as an expert, but I have learned a lot over the last few years and thought it would be fun to share some of the tips and tricks I’ve found along the way. I’ll be talking about different brew methods, machines, origins, and so much more. I’m also going to sprinkle in some affiliate links just in case anyone wants to try the products mentioned in these journals because there will be no gatekeeping here! Now, let me start by telling you my own origin story…
I didn’t truly get into coffee until my early 20’s. I started out by bouncing around to all kinds of shops while I was in college. I tried various brews from locally owned stores to name brand franchises. From Dunkin to Tim Hortons, Biggby to Starbucks, I would get a cup any chance I had. Over time, I developed a love for the flavor and looked forward to treating myself whenever I could. Sadly, as a broke college student that wasn’t very often and my journey was spotty starting out.

A few years later once I had my own house, and enough counter space, I finally received my first coffee machine — a housewarming gift from my Dad nonetheless. It was then that I started brewing my own coffee at home. I looked forward to it every morning. Selecting the perfect mug, the aroma filling the whole house, and taking that first sip of fresh morning coffee.
It’s hard to believe that it was just three short years ago I had a Keurig Duo, some K-cups, zero barista skills, and a dream… a dream to brew better coffee.
Now, if you prefer to brew your coffee at home like I do, then you might have asked yourself, “Why doesn’t my coffee taste like the grande café latte that I ordered from Starbucks?” I asked myself this very same question about six months after receiving my first Keurig. Morning after morning, cup after cup, I just couldn’t figure it out. Was it the K-cups? The tap water? My machine? Was it me? I had not a single clue. So I did what any reasonable 23 year-old would do, I googled it.
I searched high and low looking for answers. From watching youtube videos, to reading posts on Reddit, and even listening to Podcasts on my morning walks I soaked in all the information I could find. And now here I am, ready to share my experiences with the Java Junkies.
Every Sunday I’m going to share bits and pieces of what I’ve learned and document my ongoing journey. So please, stay a while and join our Java Junkie crew while we unlock the secrets to making the perfect home brew.
Happy brewing! ☕️
